Brendan Curran, with over 30 years as an oil and gas geologist, serves as FourPoint’s Senior Geologic Advisor.
Prior to his current role at FourPoint, Curran served as the Vice President of Geology before being promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2022. He was previously the geologist in Cordillera Energy Partners III, responsible for the emerging Tonkawa Sandstone Horizontal play. From 2009 to 2012, he mapped the extents of the Tonkawa from existing vertical well control, developed core-based log models, guided leasing, and drilled approximately 75 successful wells to de-risk the play before the sale of Cordillera III. Before joining Cordillera, he was a geologist in Denver for Encana Oil & Gas (USA) from 2002 to 2009. On Encana’s Northern Exploration/New Ventures team, he generated and drilled over-pressured cell and resource play prospects in the Greater Green River Basin in a small, multidisciplinary group.
Later, as a member of the fast-growing North Piceance team, Curran developed log analysis techniques and generated basin-wide resource maps of the Mesa Verde section to guide leasing, acquisitions, and step-out drilling as the team rapidly expanded the productive limits of the Williams Fork Formation resource play and quickly ramped up gas production. He began his professional career with Marathon Oil Company in 1991 and worked in the Permian, Anadarko, Arkoma, Green River, and Bighorn basins from the Midland, TX, Cody, WY, and Oklahoma City offices over his 12 years with the company. His responsibilities with Marathon included Exploration/Exploitation, Development, Enhanced Oil Recovery, and Business Development roles. Curran received a BS degree in Geology from Albion College, a MS degree in Geology from Western Michigan University, and is currently a member of AAPG, RMAG, and WTGS. He is a Wyoming Professional Geologist.
